A couple of years ago we began discussing and praying about the idea of a Deaf Mission trip. Our desire was to form a team that would be made up of those in the Deaf ministry at Harvest Oakville. According to a Mission Frontiers website, “It has been reported that out of an estimated 250 to 300 million Deaf people in the world, only 2% of them are Christians…Deaf people are among the largest unreached people groups in the world.” This is why serving the deaf here in Oakville and abroad is core to the mission of making disciples of all nations!
We are excited to announce that on Wednesday, February 15 our Deaf Mission Team will be leaving on their first mission trip for one week. God has been working in amazing ways and has led us to Haiti through the ministry of Mission of Hope, which has a special ministry to the Deaf within the village of Leveque. During our time in Haiti we will be delivering solar lanterns and goats, planting trees, visiting the Deaf Academy, joining in the worship service at the Deaf church, and most importantly, sharing the gospel with the Deaf people in Leveque.
We are so thankful for all who have kept the Haiti Deaf Mission Trip in prayer, and for all who are graciously supporting our fundraising efforts to help us reach our goal. Having the family of God standing with us and encouraging us has made a big difference. You are loved!
As we have been preparing for this mission trip, God has been speaking to our hearts. A profound need of God’s presence and power, a surrendering to His will, a trusting in His wisdom, a dependence on Him to open hearts in order for the Deaf to believe, and the desire to be used in a way that brings glory to God. God is working and we are expecting great things on this mission trip. Please pray that the Holy Spirit’s power will pour down on us and the Deaf people in Haiti, that hearts would be fully surrendered to the Lord. Also, as we head into the spiritual warfare in Haiti, pray that we go in the power and protection of God.
