Update #1: the Volks

John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, Unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.

Dear Family and Friends,

It is time once again to let you know what is happening with us in Grenada. The Lord is so faithful in granting us good health. John had some blood tests done to check out a minor issue. It turns out that all the test were good and he is healthy. Praise God.

Wait on the LORD

Again this month we have seen the faithfulness of God as He helps us in the obstacles and challenges we experience. John’s visa had to be renewed this month. The immigration gave him a three months visitor’s stay when we landed. It was suggested that a work exemption permit would give John a one year stay. The process required many documents from here and from Canada. It turns out to be very costly and complicated. They consider ministry not as volunteer but work therefore he needs a work permit. We commit this to the Lord in prayer asking God for wisdom and direction. After many prayers and waiting on the Lord, John went back close to the renewal date. God answered our prayers and John got a six month extension instead of a three month, expiring December 2016. All praise and glory to our Lord. At the end he will apply for a three month permit again. We also had a water drainage problem at our home in Canada, which will be corrected by one of our faithful brothers in the Lord. Our email was hacked and we could not send or receive mail for three days, we did not know. Another incident, John protected me from being bitten by a vicious dog on one of our walks. Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. God said for us to cast all our burdens upon Him.

More than Church Planting

It is with great joy for us to encourage you about the work here in Grenada. At our June vision meeting, thirty five people came out. There were many questions and much interest. Eight people are contemplating on joining the core, please God! We are on a journey. Our mission extended in counselling and mentoring. John with the men and Doreen with the women, this is so needed when dealing with sin. Commitment, punctuality, jealousy, love and forgiveness, in all these things we see the truth in the word of God. Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

A Basket of Mangos

With the rainy season’s arrival, the fruits are starting to come in. Mangos, golden apple, damsel and many more. Doreen is using her culinary skill to make homemade juice.

Park Ministry

We continue to meet people in the park and explain about the new church plant, the vertical church concept and how it makes a difference. We then keep in touch with them by phone and invite them to the monthly Vision meetings. On one occasion we went to the park and it began to rain, I (Doreen) went to the mall and in the Payless shoes store, I saw a woman with one week old baby. I asked her if I could hold the baby while she shopped for shoes. Oh how I loved the short time with the baby. (Single mom). Doreen’s Real Estate skills have been a great help in these encounters. Again we can look back and to know that in all that we do in life, God has a plan to use those skills and experiences.

Personal Experiences

The work is not so much physical, but more mental. We talk to people about the vertical church but they have no concept of this and have always done church in a different way. What is making a difference in Grenada is showing that we are serious in practising what we preach. Showing love is a key element. One local single mom told Doreen that she stopped attending church because she was snubbed by her fellow church goers when she asked for a ride home from church and had no money for the bus. She was hurt. Doreen invited her to the vision meeting and assured her that she would have a ride home. When she came to the Vision meeting I made sure she would get home OK. Other people are reluctant to make the switch, even when they are not being fed with the Word at their home church. We have to remember that God is the one who changes their hearts and that He will move the people. The Spirit of the Lord has to move among His people and for that we pray.

Prayer is our Weapon

The longer we are involved here in Grenada, the more we see the need for earnest prayer, calling on God to move. We are all crying out to the Lord to show us great and mighty works and we claim the promises of God. The team has called the month of July a Miracle Month. We are seeking the Lord to bring at least eight more people to commit solidly to be part of the core group. Believing by faith that He will answer our prayer for a total of twenty five people. We are so thankful for you all, for prayers, giving and hands on help in area’s where we are helpless.

Praise God for:

● Good health

● Harmony and unity in the core group

● Opportunities to speak with people

● God’s provision every day

We would like for you to join with us in these areas of prayer:

● Increase of the core group to 25 + committed people

● Unity among the core group

● More men to be added to our numbers

● More musically gifted people

● Financial stability

● Those who are contemplating joining us

● Grenada’s need of revival and healing in families

● Christians not to be drawn into the glamour of Carnival and licentiousness

● For our safety, as some people drive recklessly on the island

● Continued financial support to reach our target
