Youth

Hope Youths’ mission is to help students in a growing relationship with Jesus. Through the Word, worship, and small group time with fellow students and leaders, our desire is to see students encouraged, convicted, and challenged in their walk with the Lord.

We meet every Wednesday evening, alternating weeks in the building for our two age groups. Junior High, grades 6-8, will meet at the church one week and Senior High, grades 9-12, will meet at the church the following week. When your student is not “on” for a week, they may livestream the message and meet with their small groups online, organized by their leaders. When students are in the building we do ask that in accordance with Halton guidelines everyone wears a mask.

Doors to the church will open at 6:45pm and the evening will end promptly at 8:30pm on Wednesdays. Please drop-off and pick up students at the front entrance. Due to COVID-related precautions, no parents will be able to come into the building. Thank you for your understanding with this.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to us by calling the church or emailing youth@hopeoakville.ca.

FAQs

How often does Hope Youth meet?

During this Covid season we are operating with a hybrid style of both online and in-person meetings. We are alternating weeks between our two age groups (Junior High and Senior High) attending youth in the church building, with the other weeks being live-streamed and meeting their small groups online.

What days of the week do you meet?

We meet each Wednesday evening. The doors to the church open at 6:45pm and the students will leave promptly at 8:30pm.  There will be no lingering in the church building at this time.

Is my student required to wear a mask?

Yes, under provincial guidelines we are required to wear masks within all public areas of the church.

Will there be proper social distancing?

Yes, just as in our church services students are placed three seats apart. Siblings may sit together, but we are encouraging students to sit in the same area as the rest of their age group. When they meet in the classrooms for small groups, chairs are placed a proper distance apart and good traffic flow is encouraged.

May my student come early and stay late to socialize?

With Covid restrictions in place, students may come in no earlier than 6:45pm and leave promptly at 8:30pm. They are welcome to hang out outside the building if they (and their parents) desire. We encourage social distancing outside as well.

What does my student need to bring along to Youth?

Please send your students prepared with Bible, pen, and notebook. We cannot supply these items at this time.

May parents enter the building or attend the meeting?

No, due to Covid restrictions at this time we ask all parents and caregivers to remain outside the building.

How are the small groups determined?

We place students into small groups based on their grade and gender. For example, grade 6 girls and grade 6 boys stay separated. There are usually four groups in each grade and gender category.

Who are the leaders?

Leaders are typically young adults within our church that have applied, been interviewed, received training, and have a heart to love students and point them to Christ.

Does my student need to check-in each time?

Yes. This is very important. First-time students will need to check-in at the kiosk when they arrive, but after their first week, they must check-in with their small group leader who will take attendance.

Can my student bring a friend?

Yes. All are welcome!

Do you do any special outings?

In a typical year, we would have various retreats in different seasons. We are not yet sure what the 2020-2021 season will bring. Updates will be available on this page.

What does Hope Youth need from parents and families?

We need your prayers. We can do nothing apart from the working of the Holy Spirit, so we ask you to hold this ministry up in prayer. Ask the Lord to bless, to move, and to transform hearts to become more like Jesus. Be an encourager to both your students, their friends, and their small group leader.
