Course Description: The Greek word apologia denotes the activity of offering a defence against an accusation. Peter uses the term in 1 Peter 3:15 more broadly to convey the concept of defending biblical truths against false accusations. This course will introduce students to several arguments aimed at creating a robust set of biblically and philosophically-based defences of important truths of the Christian faith. Students will be exposed to arguments for the existence of God, the plausibility of the resurrection, the reliability of Scripture, the nature and necessity of faith, and the reality of evil. Objectives: By the end of the course, participants will be able to:Understand and articulate common arguments in defence of the Christian faith Distinguish between Classical, Evidentialist, and Presuppositionalist approaches to apologetics Provide counter-arguments for arguments made against the Christian faith Apply apologetics methodology to personal Bible reading, discipleship, and evangelismPrerequisites: None Duration - 9 weeks

This one-session course will provide you with clarity on who we are as a church, what we believe as a Christian community and will equip you to live out the Christian life here at Hope Oakville. The Step 2 course must be completed before you can start to serve or join a group at Hope Oakville.

Course Description: A significant portion of the Old Testament (40-50%) is written in the genre of history, narrating events, referencing geographical locations, and depicting the lives of real people in the Ancient Near East. This course delves into the archaeology, history, and geography of the Old Testament, providing a comprehensive understanding of the historical passages within their broader cultural and historical contexts. Through this exploration, students will deepen their appreciation for the Old Testament and its significance in understanding God’s Word and its relevance today. Objectives: By the end of the course, participants will be able to:Understand the geography, languages, and cultures of the Ancient Near East (ANE) and their importance to Old Testament history.Analyze key archaeological discoveries that illuminate events and contexts described in the Old Testament.Comprehend the basic history, culture, and interactions of major people groups mentioned in the Old Testament (e.g., Philistines, Moabites, Hittites).Master essential geography, timelines, and historical developments of prominent empires—Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, and Persia—in relation to Old Testament events.Engage with the historical narratives of the Old Testament to deepen personal joy, faith, and appreciation for God’s Word.Prerequisites: None Duration: 8 weeks

Course Description: This course will introduce the student to the Doctrine of Scripture. Scripture is foundational to the formation of all theological belief. Scripture is the enduring revelation of God to and for his church. Scripture, directly and indirectly, testifies of its own divine characteristics and divine origin. This course will introduce the student to the attributes of Scripture, as revealed in Scripture, including the inspiration, inerrancy, clarity, sufficiency, and animation of Scripture. As appropriate, this course will answer theological objections to these doctrines and set these doctrines in their historical context. Men's Group Life exists to bring men of all walks and ages together weekly, for collective devotional time and prayer, followed by small group time. In these leader-facilitated small groups, men will engage in intentional study the Word of God, Bible based prayer together, and engage in fellowship for accountability and sanctification. Please note that you must register to join a men's group.

Registered women gather weekly in facilitated small groups, focused on the study of God's Word and care for one another through prayer, service and fellowship.  Tuesday Mornings: 9:30-11:30 am (childcare option; registration required).
