OUR VISION

At Hope Oakville, our vision is to glorify God among all peoples by sending and supporting qualified workers to plant and strengthen healthy churches. We believe that global missions is the work of the church, not simply a ministry within the church (Matt. 28:18–20; Mark 16:15–18; Luke 24:46–49; John 20:21; Acts 1:8).

As a church, we seek to faithfully steward all that God has entrusted to us—including people, resources, and the gospel—for the ultimate purpose of seeing His glory proclaimed among the nations (Ps. 67).

Our approach

We pursue this vision through a church-centered approach to missions, recognizing that the local church is both the means and the goal of global missions. Our desire is to see healthy churches planted where none exist and existing churches strengthened in strategic locations around the world.

LONG-TERM Sending Pathway

A long-term global worker is equipped and sent out by the local church to proclaim the gospel, disciple believers and then plant and strengthen local churches. This is done across ethnic, linguistic, and/or geographical barriers.

We take seriously our role, as the church, to train and send out qualified men and women to the nations. This process can take several years to complete.

You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God. For they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the gentiles. Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.

Global Church Partners

We are committed to sending and partnering with those who plant new churches where none yet exist and to strengthen existing churches where they do. We partner with global workers and national churches that share our theological and missiological convictions, working together to advance the gospel among the nations.

Membley Community Chapel

Planted in 2018 through a partnership between Karura Community Chapel and Hope Oakville, Membley Community Chapel is led by Pastor Henry and his wife Carole in Nairobi, Kenya. In a region heavily impacted by prosperity theology, Membley serves as a beacon for biblical truth, focusing on local discipleship, children’s ministry, and equipping young people for cross-cultural missions.

Mentanoia Biserica

Planted in 2008 to bring gospel-centered hope to Brăila, Romania, Biserica Metanoia serves vulnerable families and meets deep relational needs through holistic care, an outreach coffee shop, and youth camps. Hope has been blessed in partnering with Metanoia since 2011, sending over 200 team members to support local ministry, church planting, and regional leadership training.

South Asia Training Centre

It is reported that around 80% of pastors serving in churches around the world have little to no formal theological training. That is why we have partnered with local pastors and ministry leaders in South Asia to provide biblical and theological education.

What is a missionary?

We believe a missionary is someone who is qualified and sent by the local church, who crosses ethnic, linguistic, and/or geographic barriers to make the gospel known and to plant, strengthen, and multiply local churches (Acts 13:1-4, Acts 14:21-23; Rom. 10:13-15, Rom. 15:20-21).  

What is the role of the church in missions?

We believe the local church is both the means and the goal of missions. The church is the means by which missionaries are equipped, qualified and sent out to make the gospel known (Acts 13:1–3). Missions does not happen apart from the local church, but is the work entrusted to and carried out through the church. The church is also the goal of missions. We long to see healthy local churches planted and strengthened among the nations, where churches proclaim the gospel, disciple believers, and participate in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 14:21–28).

Where do we send missionaries?

While we believe the gospel is needed everywhere, we place a particular emphasis on sending and supporting missionaries among unreached people groups, where Christ is not yet faithfully proclaimed and healthy churches are not yet established (Rom. 10:14-15, Rom. 15:20-21; Rev. 7:9-10). Our desire is to see the gospel advance into new regions through the planting of new churches and the strengthening of existing churches.

Who do we send?

We send men and women who have been qualified and approved by the elders of our church. Those we send have demonstrated the character, calling, convictions and competencies for cross-cultural work. They are mature believers, demonstrating godly character, faithfulness, and ministry fruit. Their lives reflect the qualities given for elders and deacons in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. 

How can I participate in missions?

Every believer has a role to play in the advancement of the gospel among the nations, though not every believer will be sent as a missionary. We participate through prayer, financial and practical support, and caring for those who are sent. The whole church has a part to play in seeing the gospel proclaimed and disciples made among the nations (Matt. 28:18–20; Phil. 4:10–18; 2 Cor. 11:9). What is the role of short term trips?

We believe short-term trips can be valuable when they are carried out in the right context and for specific purposes. Their aim should be to expose believers to the realities of long-term missions and to serve and strengthen the local church. Short-term trips should be done in partnership with the missionary and/or local church on the ground, not independent of it.
